Today is the 18th, my favorite number and a thread through the story of my life. I married my soulmate on the 18th, in a quiet civil ceremony in Hanau, Germany, just weeks after his return from Desert Storm. Both of our children, on their own terms, were born on the 18th. Over the years, this number has shown up in unexpected moments, both joyful and reflective. In Hebrew, 18 means chai, life.
